Ask Terry Questions Spousal Social Security

Spousal Social Security

By Terry Savage on January 03, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Terry:

If my 69 year old wife begins collecting her social security (about $900 / month) now:
1.) Will she be able to collect a portion of mine when I begin taking mine at age 70 (about $3700 / month then)?
2.) If she switches from her’s to mine when I begin collecting, is my benefit reduced?

Thanks in Advance!
