Ask Terry Questions SS income and taxes

SS income and taxes

By Terry Savage on March 27, 2020 | Taxes & Economy

Wife and I have income less than 42k yr. combined, our accountant 6 yrs ago (retired) said I don’t need to file. Is this still the case today?

Terry Says

That was NOT good advice. This year the income below which you don’t have to file is $24,400 on a joint return! You need a tax expert (CPA) to help you — not that original person who gave you bad advice (unless maybe that year you had less income and didn’t have to file). Not quite sure where to send you today, but go to www.TurboTax.com or www.EY.com ot use their tax chat feature. Maybe you can get one of their experts to focus on your specific issue.
