SS spousal benefit
We were both eager to take our SS at 62 for various reasons. (I know you don’t agree).
We worked all our lives and each of us has contributed. We are 76, and his SS is more than twice mine. Did I hear you say today on WGN I can request half of his amount if I’m over 70? Maybe you were talking about if he was deceased. Please advise.
Thank you,

If you have been married for 10 years, and are still married, and your benefit is less than half his benefit (not counting Medicare deductions), then you should contact SS and get your share (half) of his larger benefit!
But do remember that even that benefit is reduced because you both decided to claim early. You left a lot of money on the table!
