Ask Terry Questions SSDI & Social Security

SSDI & Social Security

By Terry Savage on September 13, 2024 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I’m 61 and have been on SSDI for 10 years after breaking my back in 3 places, and am considered permanently disabled.
Is there an age at which my SSDI becomes Social Security, and will they change my benefit amount?

Terry Says

Social Security disability benefits automatically change to retirement benefits when disability beneficiaries become full retirement age. The law does not allow a person to receive both retirement and disability benefits on one earnings record at the same time. Your full retirement age is 67. And you can go to the Social Security website to see the amount of your FRA benefit.
