Still waiting for federal tax refund
I enjoyed reading your column in the Chicago Tribune today. You mentioned about delays in getting a federal refund on the 2020 tax return for various reasons. I’m still waiting on a refund for a deceased uncle’s 2019 return. The family has patiently waited for almost two years as the money would help to pay back some of the burial expenses. Any thoughts on what be done to speed up the process. We have called and are told that our situation is not unusual as the IRS is quite behind.

And I’m sad to say the exact same thing _ This is not unusual, the IRS is way behind — especially on “special situations” that require individual review, such as estate tax returns. Eventually it will come, plus interest. Sorry I can’t give you better news.
