Stimlulus check to Medicaid recipient
My 57 year old son is a resident in a nursing home. He is on Medicare and Medicaid. He also receives an annuity check each month for $167.25. I am his POA for Property. I have asked the nursing home to send his latest stimulus check for $1400 to me to be placed in his checking account. They are holding it in a Trust Fund for him. They have told me that if he does not spend the $1400 by the end of 2021, he must return the $1400 to IRS. Is this true?
Terry Says
That is NOT true! And please send me an email to Terry@TerrySavage.com with the name of the nursing home, and the contact information and your telephone number. This is a FEDERAL fraud that is specifically prohibited. Nursing homes may NOT confiscate stimulus payments, not use them in payment of services.
The one thing you do have to avoid is having more than $2,000 in assets in his name, or he could lose his Medicaid status.
Please do contact me, and I will make a BIG DEAL out of this, and help report them to the Federal authorities if they are doing this to their residents. (In case you can’t tell, I’m steaming!!)
