Ask Terry Questions Stimulus check

Stimulus check

By Terry Savage on April 24, 2020 | Wild Card

I gave my direct deposit information to the IRS for my tax return, but my all of my tax return goes towards an installment agreement for previous taxes. Do we still still need to use Get My Payment to give them our direct deposit information for the stimulus?

Is it quicker for people to receive the stimulus payment by fiiling 2019 taxes and giving direct deposit, or waiting snd using the Get My Payment first to enter direct deposit?

Terry Says

Stay away from the IRS website! It’s a mess~! Even if you enter your direct deposit info there, there’s no guarantee they’ll make that happen. And all their messages are confusing.

If you gave the IRS information on your return for your installment PAYMENTS, it will not be used to direct deposit your stimulus payment. Instead, it will go to the address on your most recent return.

But since you haven’t filed for 2019 yet, DO THAT IMMEDIATELY, and include direct deposit info — even if you owe them. Then you might get your payment by direct deposit. Either way, you’ll get it eventually — and by that I mean in the next two months.
