Ask Terry Questions Stimulus check

Stimulus check

By Terry Savage on March 31, 2020 | Wild Card

Hi Terry, I was wondering if I was getting a check? I got behind on my student loans and did not keep up with my responsibilities. On March 18 the board of education took away my refund check from my tax filing 2019. I haven’t work but my husband filed taxes as a Married joint . I was so disappointed because of all times now is when we could of used that money. Will they also take away the stimulus check?

Terry Says

They will still send the stimulus check if you are behind on your Federal student loans. The only thing that is being deducted is if you are behind in child support. You’ll get your check the same way you filed — so likely in the mail if you meet the income criteria and did not file electronically.
