Ask Terry Questions stimulus check

stimulus check

By Terry Savage on November 30, 2021 | Wild Card

Hi:
I wonder if I may pose the following question to you:

This past summer my wife and I both received the 3rd stimulus check of $1400 each. As we approach the end of the calendar year, it appears our 2021 AGI will be about $165,000. Does that render us ineligible for the $2800, or was the 3rd check SOLELY predicated on our 2019 or 2020 AGI’s which were less than 150k?

If the 2021 check IS based on 2021 income, I assume I would return the $2800 when I file 2021 taxes as an adjustment in the tax return.

Terry Says

Don’t worry about returning that check. It was a gift from the government (we, the taxpayers, or the inflation burdeners)) based on your 2020 income. You will not be asked to return it.
