stimulus check amount — got $47.80 not $1200!
Yesterday I received my stimulus check and it was for 47.80. How can I find out why it was so much smaller than the 1200 I was promised?

Wow! Did you earn over $75,000 on your individual tax return? That would reduce your payment. But I gather from your question that you knew you are eligible for the full $1200. That is a horrible mistake.
And I have even worse news for you. You’ll have to wait until next year to file a tax return (even if you don’t earn enough to be required to file) to ask for a CREDIT! Yes, that’s insane.
You should receive a letter within two weeks, explaining why this was the amount you were paid. SAVE THAT LETTER! It will be important to document the fact that you were a victim of a terrible mistake.
I am hoping that after they finish distributing all the stimulus payments they will open up some kind of toll-free number or website to deal with complaints. But I’m not holding my breath on that!
