Stimulus check for elderly on Medicaid
My mother is 94, a nursing home resident, on Medicaid. Should she expect the $1,400 stimulus check? I don’t think she filed taxes.

But she DOES get Social Security? If so, the check will come to the same account. And even on Medicaid, the state CANNOT take that stimulus money. You need to spend it for her basic needs, though, so you don’t lost her Medicaid benefits. In Illinois, a person on Medicaid can have no more than $2,000 in assets.
Didn’t she get the first two payments via Social Security? The original $1200 and the January $600? If not, you should file a return for her — even with low or no earnings — and request a refund of those two amounts on Line 30. Read this article for details.
