Ask Terry Questions Stimulus Check for independent daugher

Stimulus Check for independent daugher

By Terry Savage on May 13, 2020 | Wild Card

Ms. Savage

My inquiry is questions regarding the Federal Stimulus Check that were sent in April 2020.
My 23 year old daughter who has filed separately the last 2-3 years, graduated in 2019, has full time job didn’t receive stimulus check.  She was filed independent not dependent in 2018 or 2019.  Has yearly received income tax returns from State & Federal through direct deposit. Lives at home, same address.

She’s attempted to go on the IRS Website no luck, reached out to Madigan’s Office no help, etc.No one has provided any factual information just the same response of not sure or you might still receive it.

I’ve heard numerous answers none which make sense to me. Can you provide your insight as to what is the problem? Do you think she’ll receive a check?

Any advice or information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Lorel

Are you absolutely sure that you didn’t declare her a dependent on your 2018 or 2019 return? If not, she should receive a stimulus payment. Likely in the mail to the address which she used on her tax return. Despite the IRS boasts that they have paid out more than 130 million stimulus payments, many people who filed tell me they still haven’t received their payment.
