Ask Terry Questions Stimulus Check to Deceased

Stimulus Check to Deceased

By Terry Savage on April 24, 2020 | Wild Card

I just received a stimulus check payable to my deceased parent who died in 2019. How do I return it?

Terry Says

You don’t. If your parent signed a 2018 or 2018 tax return he, or his estate, are entitled to the stimulus. So deposit it into the account of the deceased. That was told to me by an IRS spokesperson. This is not at all like collecting SS benefits after death.
