Ask Terry Questions Stimulus Checks

Stimulus Checks

By Terry Savage on August 15, 2020 | Wild Card

We are Florida residence and filed our 2019 taxes on May 28 2020 electronically through our tax preparer. We always have to pay our tax responsibility on a quarterly basis. We never get a refund from the IRS but do receive SS payments into a checking account. We have a residence in Wisconsin so we forwarded our mail to our summer address in early May . Using the government web site we have not been able obtain any information about our check. Any suggestions or do we simply have to wait and see if we ever get the stimulus check?

Did you qualify based on your 2018 — not 2019,but 2018 — return with AGI of under $150,000? If not, then they looked at that return first and decided you didn’t qualify. That wouldn’t mean you don’t get a stimulus check. But you will have to apply for it as a credit on your 2020 return, which you file next April.
BUT if you were qualified based on income, then this is the time to file IRS form 3811.
Read instructions here to get the form.
