Stimulus checks for child
If the mother has custody of children, why does the father who doesn’t have the children get the stimulus check?

Depends on how they filed the tax return. The child ($500) should have gone to the custodial parent.
If that didn’t happen and it went to the other parent, the custodial parent can file a claim on next year’s tax return (the 2020 return which will be filed in April 2021).
