Ask Terry Questions Stimulus Checks for Deceased Individuals

Stimulus Checks for Deceased Individuals

By Terry Savage on February 21, 2021 | Wild Card

I received $1200 for my deceased mother, directly deposited to my checking account as her Executor. Has the IRS sorted things out enough to return this if required? I have not spent the funds, but want to make sure I handle properly. What do you suggest I do?

Terry Says

Wait until they contact you! There is still a great deal of debate as to whether people who were alive and filed tax returns, can properly collect a check if they died after the check was sent out. I’m sure we will hear more from the IRS on that in the coming year.
