Stimulus checks for dependent over age 17

By Terry Savage on October 31, 2021 | Wild Card

My nephew was a student in 2019 and 2020. He filed his own tax return in 2020 making very little money but was a dependent on his parents’ return. His parents did not qualify for the stimulus because their income was too high. Is my nephew entitled to any of the stimulus money? My sister says he has not received any. Thank you.

Terry Says

If he was a dependent on his parents’ 2020 return THEY should have received a $1400 stimulus for him– no matter what his age. If they did not receive it, then he can claim it when he files his 2021 return next April.
