Stimulus for a deceased person
My brother in law passed in September of 2019. He received what we assumed was a partial stimulus direct deposit after his death. We looked up what to do on the IRS site and followed directions given to return the money. The IRS has not cashed the check and we want to close the checking account. Any ideas on what we should do?

I advised everyone NOT to do that. There is an ongoing controversy over whether those checks must legally be returned.
After all this time, I would close the account and withdraw the money — and then wait to hear from them, if ever.
