Ask Terry Questions Stimulus Payment

Stimulus Payment

By Terry Savage on May 14, 2020 | Wild Card

When attempting to create an account for the IRS for our daughter’s stimulus payment, she was unable to complete the process due to the IRS’s inability to verify her cell phone number. Since the IRS states that they are not sending out codes via email, the process stops there. Why do they need to verify the cell phone number after they have already sent a verification code to her email? Other than completing the bank information for a non-filer (which she is not – she filed as single, non-dependent, for 2019) and typing the address in caps, what else can be done?

Terry Says

If she filed a tax return and was not declared a dependent on your 2019 or 2018 return then she should just wait patiently for a check to arrive! that website is a mess — avoid it!
