Stimulus payments not received; IRS does not show my 2019 return

By Terry Savage on March 17, 2021 | Wild Card

Hi, Terry:

Please help! I am willing to pay for an answer! You are so smart and help so many people! I remember you from your Channel 5 days in the 80’s!

I sent my 2019 taxes by mail. Within 8 days, they cashed the check for the amount I owed.
But, to this date, they do not show my 2019 return on file! How can this be? It has been almost a year!

As a result of this, I did not receive my 2nd stimulus payment of $600. I did receive the 1st stimulus of $1,200 because they went off the 2018 tax return info.

On March 5, 2021, I filed my 2020 tax return electronically. I claimed the 2nd stimulus payment of $600 on Line 30 and included my bank account and routing information.

As of today, the tax return is still showing ‘In Process’. It has been 12 days. I know they say 21 days but others got it quickly.

Today, I did NOT receive the 3rd stimulus payment of $1,400.

What can I do? Will they send the 3rd stimulus by direct deposit once the 2020 return is fully processed?

I don’t want to wait until 2022 to get this money or to have my 2019 return to show as processed.
This is not right!

Who can I talk to?? Would it help to schedule an in person appointment? The IRS is not very helpful on the phone.

Please advise. I am desperate and don;t know what to do!

Thank you.

Terry Says

Well, the IRS website is not always up to date. If you filed your 2020 return, AND gave them your direct deposit info, you should receive BOTH the stimulus payments by direct deposit soon. but they are separate issues. Teh $600 comes as a tax refund credit — the new stimulus should come automatically (if you qualified based on 2019 income) or after the process your 2020 return. Please write back in one month if you still do not have both checks!
