Survivor Benefits
Hello,
My husband pasted away 6.5 years ago. He was 59 (born in 1957) and I was 55 (born in 1961). I got the one time survivor benefit of approx. of $200. I am now 61.5 and my husband would have been 65.5. I still work full time and am a high earner. I plan on taking my SS benefit at 70, however I would like to collect some of my late husbands Social Security benefit. I just feel he worked all those years and someone should get the benefit. When can I or should I apply for his benefit? Do I have to wait until my retirement age of 67.5 years old or can I get it now? If I get it now would I get his maximum or would it pay more when I reach my retirement age?
Thank you for helping me out. I keep getting conflicting answerers and I know your answers will be the correct one for my situation.
