Ask Terry Questions T bill purchase by deceased

T bill purchase by deceased

By Terry Savage on February 27, 2025 | Chicken Money

Relative died-no will. Other relative is executor of the estate. It will be probated. We believe deceased relative may have purchased a T -bill around Feb, 2024. 9% may have been interest at time of purchase. How do we search this out. Thank you

Terry Says

This would have not been a T-bill, but a Series I savings bond. Search his bank accounts for a withdrawal at that time sent to TreasuryDirect.
Without any evidence of purchase, it’s almost impossible to track. There would be no 1099 since interest on I-Bonds is not paid out.
