T-bills

By Terry Savage on April 06, 2024 | Chicken Money

Do I need to wait for my t-bills to reach maturity date before I can have the monies
Transferred to my bank account?
They were bought about a year ago.
And I did send in the paperwork to redeem the bonds.
Thank you

Terry Says

First, WHAT DID YOU BUY?
If you bought T-bills, you can’t cash them in early.
If you bought Series I-bonds, you’ll lose a huge hunk of interest by cashing them in before 5 years, and you must wait at least one year to cash them in.
You don’t send in paperwork. You go into your account at TreasuryDirect.gov where you bought them and under the “Manage Direct” tab, you can give instructions to sell I bonds if you must.
