Ask Terry Questions T-Bills interest payment

T-Bills interest payment

By Terry Savage on May 20, 2023 |

Since your “T-Bills Beats CDs” article, I’ve made (3) $5K purchases of 26 week T-Bills. This last purchase, they only deducted $4874.12 for the $5K purchase. Why is that?

Terry Says

They deduct less than the fully intended purchase price EVERY time you buy T-bills. That is your interest which you get up front! At maturity (unless you scheduled rollovers) the full face value will drop into your account. And if you DID schedule a rollover, the next interest payment will drop back into your checking account.
