Ask Terry Questions tax deductions for two families?

tax deductions for two families?

By Terry Savage on December 03, 2018 | Wild Card

Hi I remarried and never divorced former spouse and am fully supporting my ex and my 2 children with her….can I claim a deduction for my ex-wife&2 children and also the child I have with my new spouse on my federal taxes?

Terry Says

I hope this is a joke!  You have committed bigamy if you married again without divorcing your first spouse.  And the penalty, depending on the state, could be as much as 5 years in jail!  Fix this fast by divorcing your “ex”.  And don’t call attention to it by attempting to deduct both families on your tax return!
