tax deferred unemployment benefits

By Terry Savage on January 16, 2022 | Wild Card

I can’t be the only person in this pickle. The state mishandled my unemployment claim so I wasn’t paid anything until after I returned to work in mid 2021. I have tried to call the irs but can’t get a live person or a reply off their website. Will I be taxed on my2020 benefits because I was paid late due to state of Illinois bungling?

Terry Says

You’ll have to wait until you get your 1099G form from the government! That will tell you whether they are reporting unemployment benefits for 2021. Those forms should be in the mail by the end of January. check this link.
