Ask Terry Questions Tax filing income required

Tax filing income required

By Terry Savage on February 15, 2021 | Wild Card

I am retired and only receive social security as my income. I have a little in the bank . So my income is close to 14,000, I have no mortgage so I am able to get by. I do pay property taxes with senior exemption. Do I need to file income taxes? Federal and State or neither.

Terry Says

If you are 65 or older and single, you don’t need to file unless your income is over $14,050 for 2020.
BUT, if you missed out on either the original $1200 stimulus check, or the current $600 check, you will want to file electronically to claim your stimulus payments on Line 30. Read this article.
And be sure you include your electronic banking information so the payments can be direct deposited (even if Social Security already has your banking info.)
