Ask Terry Questions Tax refund

Tax refund

By Terry Savage on July 13, 2024 | Taxes & Economy

I e-filed my federal return in February. I have not received my refund as of today. I went to the IRS site and asked “where is my refund” and put in the required information, tax ID, filing status, and refund amount.
There is no record of my filing. Where do I go and what do I need to do?
I listen to you on WGN radio in Chicago.

I assume you have a receipt for your e-filing.  I assume you went to the IRS website and searched “where’s my refund.”    Where’s My Refund? | Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov)

And I assume you contacted the tax processor you used (TurboTax, of one of the tax prep services) and enlisted their help in finding the status.

If necessary and you still haven’t found information, contact the Office of Taxpayer Advocate:  Taxpayer Advocate | Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov)

If you’ve done all that, you could consider filing an amended return (and just refiling your original return). However, that will just delay the process even further — as the timeline will restart and you will be buried in the system!
