Tax return not processed
Terry, when filing my 2020 taxes on TurboTax they were rejected for e-file because the IRS said I had no 2019 return. No I did get surprised by the change in the tax law and my tax liability so I sent $500 in with my return and paid the balance on irs.gov. I could not print a return receipt because I’m guessing they didn’t process the return yet or at all. But I did print the receipt from my account and it shows the $500 check associated with my return and the $2400 in other payments for 2019. They are not seeing or charging me with failure to file penalty but my 2019 tax return is in limbo. I can’t get through to anyone on the phone what do you suggest I do. I don’t want to send my 2019 information in again blindly.

Who filed your return for you? I ask because frequently people file a current return, and still haven’t filed a previus return. It might impact a stimulus payment, but I never heard of a return being rejected.
And how are you trying to file a return for 2020? Through TurboTax or IRS Free File? I’d need more details before I can give any advice on this.
