Taxes paid the IRS that they claim are still owed
My daughter received a big tax bill in 2020. She started paying in installments. She paid $2,000 of it, but to help her get rid of the debt and penalties, we gave her $7,000 to pay it off and then she started paying installments to us. She made an electronic payment to the IRS. Now, for the first time, they are claiming (in a letter) that she still owes them and her account has been assigned to a collection agency. What should be her first move?

Start immediately by contacting the IRS here. It’s free and it should work. You can google IRS tax attorneys, but that’s always more expensive. Still, it may be your last resort.
