Taxes — work in a different state
I own a home in Illinois but have been working in Missouri since last year, paying for all my expenses including an apartment (no per diem). Due to the Jobs Act of 2017, I cannot deduct these expenses. Is this true? Thanks!

You need to ask your CPA. In general, unless your boss requires that apartment to be your principal place of business, your living expenses would not be deductible — especially if you get a W-2 from your employer. There may be cases where an independent contractor might be able to deduct part of those costs. Or even travel costs if necessary for business. But I thought you were going to ask about whether you need to file Illinois taxes, and if there is a state tax being withheld in Missouri. And are you remaining an Illinois resident, with homeowner’s exemption, etc. Again, this is getting complicated so please find a competent CPA to advise specifically.
