Tbills

By Terry Savage on March 15, 2024 | Chicken Money

I bought a TBill in March 2023 but did not get a 1099 from them. My Treasury account says, no tax documents are available. I can’t seem to find an answer anywhere and I want to file an accurate return. What am I missing?

Terry Says

Did you buy an I-bond or a T-bill? And if a T-bill was it a 6-month bill — or a one year bill?
T-bills interest is taxable in the year the bill MATURES. So if it was a one-year bill, there is no tax due for 2023.
If you bought an I-bond, there is no tax until you cash it in!
