Third stimulus check
My third stimulus payment was only $559.44. I filed my 2020 tax return electronically last week. My income in 2019 and 2020 was less than $75,000. (My second stimulus payment was $450 rather than $600.) Do you have any ideas about why I didn’t receive the full $1400? Do I have to wait until I file my 2021 tax return to claim the difference? Thank you!

I cannot imagine why you received less than the full amount. Are you sure both returns were prepared accurately? I’d be worried about some kind of identity theft, with someone else using your SS number to report income. Go to www.SocialSecurity.gov and create an account at MySocialSecurity and check the earning reported there!
As for getting the remaining amount, I know of no way to appeal these amounts. Yes, you would have to claim the difference next year. But do look into why they might have thought more income was reported on your SS number.
