Ask Terry Questions Trust fund for daughter

Trust fund for daughter

By Terry Savage on January 30, 2022 | Wild Card

My daughter is disabled and recently was involved car accident.
The other drivers insurance company is paying $25,000 to my daughter.
Daughter is on Section 8 housing, social security disability, food allocation and has two children in high school. I understand in accepting the money she’ll lose all aide, but if she designates the money to trust fund account she’ll not lose aide.
My question: what do u suggest and is there a lawyer who’ll do it pro-bono.
Thank you,

I think you need to go to Legal Aid — a free (pro-bono) service for low income people. This should be pretty easy to set up.
If you live in the Chicago area, here is a link to their website: https://www.legalaidchicago.org/
Their phone is (312) 341-1070.

In other cities and state, just google “Free Legal Aid” and the name of your city to find the nearest local services.

And please write back if you can’t get this sorted out quickly. Don’t let your daughter receive the check until the trust account is set up. Just tell the insurance company that you are in process of setting up a trust so she won’t lose her benefits. They will wait. And if they won’t — well, for sure get back to me!
