Unemployement

By Terry Savage on August 10, 2020 | Wild Card

Really enjoy your advice I hear on wgn radio very helpful.
I have a question actually for my daughter.
She just had a baby and has been collecting unemployment she had worked at a retail store and also a few hours coaching ice skating each week.
She has been informed from the retail store after they re opened that they will not be bringing her back and the skating thing is only a couple hours a week and is currently suspended.
She does not want to do anything illegal or unethical but was wanting to know if she can still apply for unemployment for now.
She has not 100% decided if you will go back to work once the baby get’s a littler older.
Thank you appreciate any advice you can give, she just wants to do what is right.

Terry Says

Of course she can continue to collect unemployment. She just has to certify that she is searching for appropriate work. And that gives her plenty of leeway. This is exactly the circumstance that unemployment benefits were designed for. Relax.
