Unemployment

By Terry Savage on March 02, 2021 | Wild Card

I am considered a seasonal work. My layoff started on 2/1/2021. I certified for unemployment benefits on 2/17/2021 which I received. However I received a pay check for the week of 2/1/2021 thru 2/7/2021 from my company. So I ended up being paid by my company( which I should not have been because I was on layoff) and unemployment benefits for that week? Who has to resolve this issue? The company or me and how?

Terry Says

It would be great if the company could resolve it by cancelling the payment, so you could certify honestly. If you do declare it you will have a giant hassle with IDES (assuming you’re in Illionis) letting them know this was a one-shot deal, and that you need to continue your claim. And it’s hard to get through to tell them that, so once you certify to this you can expect your checks to stop!
