Unemployment Benefits
I am a retired teacher and I have had a wedding photography business for 40+ years. The business is incorporated and my wife and I collect a small month “salary”. All my photo jobs cancelled due to COVID so we have not collected any salary for a year. The corporation pays the unemployment but not now as it has no wages to report.
Should my wife and I apply for the unemployment as it will be tax free? In the big picture we are not hurting as my pension takes care of us, but since I paid into IDES for 40 yrs I feel I could recoup some of that.
I enjoy listening to you on WGN. Thanks for the help.

Sure, you paid into the fund for years. Now it’s time to collect what you deserve. But remember, you will have to certify that you are actively looking for work in order to collect benefits.
