Ask Terry Questions Unemployment — between jobs

Unemployment — between jobs

By Terry Savage on June 21, 2020 | Wild Card

Hello Terry
I quit my previous job to start a new job. I recieved the offer letter and went through all health screening assessments. Due to the impact the job close the position. Can I get unemployment from the new job? Or should i file with the previous job?

Terry Says

I’m going to give you sad news. Since you quit your old job, you can’t get unemployment. And you didn’t work at your new job, so you can’t get unemployment from that either.
You simply had bad timing and it is very unlucky. Only if you left on a friendly basis and your old employer would certify that you were laid off could you file for unemployment.
