Unemployment eligibility
My daughter was working two part-time jobs and was furloughed from both due to the pandemic. She applied for unemployment but was told she had insufficient past earnings. Many websites cite things like “Unemployment insurance will also be extended to people who recently started a new job but were laid off due to the pandemic, even if they don’t have sufficient work history previously required to be eligible.” Who’s right?

It’s really up to each state to set the qualifications for unemployment — income level, time worked etc. But if you are in ILlinois, the new PUA site for self-employed opens on Monday May 11th. If she received 1099 income statements from both jobs, she might try again to register at the new site. The new and old sites do not “talk to each other” so it’s really like starting over!
