Ask Terry Questions Unemployment extension

Unemployment extension

By Terry Savage on July 18, 2020 |

I’ve been laid off for 3 months now, will I automatically receive unemployment for the next 3 months without reapplying? Also, after 6 months, are they extending unemployment, and will I have to reapply then?

Terry Says

There is an automatic extension for a total of 39 weeks, (which includes the basic 26 weeks and an extension of 13 weeks). But the Federal extra $600/week will run out at the end of July unless Congress acts. But if you are still unemployed after 39 weeks, you won’t get any more unemployment, under the current rules.
