Unemployment Insurance (IDES)
I have lost 3 part time jobs as a result of Corona, but I’ve been denied any benefits. I’ve appealed to IDESwith no luck. I’m a 56 year old single mother with a college student now living with me. I’m still getting my paycheck as a health aide at an elementary school, but I relied on working summer school, district hired tutoring, and working part time at the high school field house to supplement. I’ve been unable to work at those positions due to the school closings since March. There is no phone number or human to contact at IDES with my questions as to why I can’t get assistance when so many are getting help at this time. What can I do?

You’re probably earning too much now to qualify for unemployment benefits. That’s why you were denied. But now that you’ve been denied, try applying for PUA (self-employed) benefits based on the loss of income from your part-time jobs. I don’t hold out much hope for getting it –but it’s worth a try.
