UNEMPLOYMENT MESS — Why are they sending me money??

By Terry Savage on November 27, 2022 | Wild Card

I received unemployment during Covid as I was a Flight Attendant. I returned to work May 2021. Just last week Nov.12 I noticed a deposit from IDES into my bank account. Now today another check deposited. I have never certified or asked for this and notified IDES immediately after I returned to work in 2021.
Although the money is nice, I know it does not rightly belong to me.. How do I get this to stop?

Terry Says

Whew — IDES is still very messed up — three years later. And you need to make sure you aren’t being part of an identity theft case. But you might want to assume the worst, just in case.

Here’s how to report identity fraud to IDES: https://ides.illinois.gov/unemployment/fraud-id-theft/reporting-unemployment-insurance-fraud/fraud-id-theft.html

And, check your own identity and freeze your credit. Here’s a link to my Identity Theft guide.

Send them a registered letter with return receipt requested, describing your situation. Keep a written copy of all communications with them.

And, finally, set that money aside because eventually you WILL be called upon to repay it.

If you don’t get this resolved in the next month, please write back. My contacts there are long gone since covid, but I will reach out to see if I can get you some help.
