Unemployment payments impact on Medicaid

By Terry Savage on June 13, 2021 | Wild Card

Hi,
I am currently receiving unemployment payments. It was suppose to end 12/2020 however IDES started my claim back up (nice of them). I am also receiving the additional $300.00 a week pandemic funds. I am not sure how long the unemployment supplement will continue. However I am on ILL Medicaid and my monthly income is over the Medicaid requirement due to the extra pandemic income. Can Medicaid deny me services due to the pandemic funds. Thank you for all the help you give during this time.

Terry Says

They won’t deny you services now, but they may review your income level and eligibiity in the future.
Here are the latest income and asset qualifications for Medicaid in Illinois:
Income & Asset Limits for Eligibility
April 2021 – March 2022 Illinois Medicaid Long Term Care Eligibility for Seniors
Type of Medicaid Single Married (both spouses applying)
Medicaid Waivers / Home and Community Based Services $1,073 / month $1,452 / month
Regular Medicaid / Aged Blind and Disabled $1,073 / month $1,452 / month

Read more about the limits here.
And remember that your stimulus payments do not impact your Medicaid eligibility.

Please write back and tell me if you are denied Medicaid in the future. I would want to do some research and ask them if these temporary unemployment benefits ever become cause to deny.
