Unemployment ran out – -Extension?

By Terry Savage on April 03, 2020 | Wild Card

My husband was laid off December 2018. He was on unemployment for 6 months. Now that they’ve extended the unemployment for Covid 19 is he eligible to receive the extended unemployment? Can he reapply now?

That’s really up in the air. The state of Illinois says “If you have exhausted your benefits or are close to exhausting your benefits, we are finalizing the process to continue benefits under the stimulus package. Details will be avialable as soon as we have received further guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor.”
That is a direct quote. BUT, I would doubt that this will happen, or be retroactive. It is going to take a LONG time to sort this out, so don’t look for the money soon, if at all. Just being honest with you so you can plan. Anything that ever does come will be a nice surprise.
