Unemployment Stopped For No Reason
Hi Terry. Love to listen to you on John Williams Show and also have one of your books. Here is the problem my husband is having: He had been receiving unemployment up until 8 weeks ago. Then it stopped for no reason. His situation is that he is a barber who works out of a corporate office and they have not reopened yet. He has also been looking for a job and nobody is hiring right now in this field. He filled out the forms requested and for 8 weeks he has not received anything. When he inquired as to why he has not been receiving any payments, they said they were looking at it and evaluating what he should be getting. He’s concerned that they have never given him an opportunity to explain his situation in working for a corporate office that has not opened yet. He has tried to contact them to explain, but so far has not received a call back. We would appreciate any assistance or advice you can give us as this has been going on for so long now. Thank you!
Terry Says
So I’m guessing that he got PUA unemployment– for the self-employed. Illinois has done some crazy things lately with this program. First they stopped paying many people, claiming the unemployment rate in Illinois had dropped so much they didn’t have to pay. Second, they have been demanding money back because of IDES miscalculations–something Federal law says they do not have to do.
I have tried many times but there is no way to get a reasonable answer from IDES. Contact the Governor. I can’t believe he has any idea of what’s going on at IDES. Sorry I can’t be of more help!
