Unlocking frozen credit report when you’ve lost/misplaced your passcode

By Terry Savage on January 26, 2024 | Wild Card

Hi Terry,

My identity was stolen about 5-6 yrs ago and I did all the necessary things to lock down my credit reports. But now I’ve found I have lost and or misplaced the passcodes to unlock them. What do I need to do to get my reports unlocked and reset my passcodes (keeping better records this time) so I can re-lock them again? Thank you!! Love your financial advice, always listen to you on WGN!!

Each of the three bureaus has a different way to unlock your report if you’ve lost your pin. Read this article and contact each bureau, either online or by phone, to get instructions. Plan for this project to take a while!
