Value of old Pensions

By Terry Savage on July 30, 2026 | Wild Card

Hi,

I had 3 different jobs when I was in my late 20’s & early 30’s that had pension plans which I put into. Wasn’t thinking about them back then. But, I quit all 3 jobs after a bit. Never bothered to find out what happened to these 3pension plans.
Currently, I’m in a job that has a 401k plan which I’m putting into. How do I find out what happened to the 3 pension plans & where those monies are?

Depending on the terms of the pension plan, if you left before your benefits were “vested” the money might have gone back into the general fund. Most companies switched from pensions to 40lk plans in the 1980s, so although you don’t give details, I’m suspecting these pension contributions were made long ago.

Just in case there is money waiting for you in one of these plans, there is a search function set up by the Department of Labor. Use this link to search for any forgotten pensions: https://lostandfound.dol.gov/
