Vanguard

Terry, First off I want to thank you for all your helpful advice (I-bonds, T-bills). My husband and I have been having a problem with Vanguard due to them no longer servicing their mutual fund platform and requiring you to open a brokerage account. We filled out the paperwork and sent it certified mail. We were told that we could but both our forms in the same envelop. My paperwork was processed but my husband’s wasn’t. They have no idea what happened to it or what happens to their paper (if it was shredded or just recycled). We have tried countless times to get answers. As for my accounts, I went from having 3 (simple IRA, Roth & Traditional in a fund and a Traditional IRA in a separate fund) to 4 brokerage accounts. I managed to have them combine my traditional IRA’s into 1 account but they couldn’t move the Roth. That I couldn’t understand, I know the Roth is a tax free distribution and that was their explanation as to why it couldn’t be done. Though I could but all sorts of other financial products with my traditional IRA account. Also, what should I do with my Simple IRA, leave it or roll it over? Thanks, Ann

Vanguard has changed their platform and is asking every client to switch to a “brokerage” type account. It doesn’t impact your holdings. Your traditional IRAs cannot be combined with a Roth IRA and need separate accounts.
Your husband should call 800-VANGUARD and start he process over for his account, since obviously his paperwork didn’t reach them.
