OK, well these fund are typically compared to annuities.  They have the advantage that you can get at your money if you need it — but they do not promise lifetime income.  There is some risk to principal, and no certainty about the income they will pay, despite their best efforts. And there is a $25,000 minimum for this Vanguard fund.  Here’s a good comparison article in Investopedia.
