Waiting for Federal tax refund
Terry, I prepare taxes for my ex-wife every year using Turbotax and file electronically. We filed in February before the pandemic hit. She was due a federal refund of $285.00. In July she got a letter requesting that she send form 1095A and 8962 because we had forgotten that she had been covered by Obamacare before starting her full time job and received premium assistance in January of 2019. We sent the forms requested but her status on IRS.gov’s “Where’s my Refund” status is still the same since we filed. I have explained to her what I have heard you say on the radio, that the IRS is simply behind and will eventually get everyone their refund eventually. Can you provide any insight that I might be able to share with her to reassure her? Thank you!
Terry Says
Nope. I’ve said it all. You know they have your return — because they raised a question. that means more work for the IRS. So it may take longer. But she should receive a separate check for interest back to April 15th –unless the mistake invalidates that.
And separately, how nice that you do your “ex’s” tax return! That’s pretty intimate! Sure you don’t want to remarry and have lower taxes??!!
